Rising Stars 2024/25

Introducing those named by ECHO as the finest young musicians in Europe.

The stars of tomorrow, performing on stage today: Every year, the European Concert Hall Organisation (ECHO) selects outstanding young artists and sends them on tour across the continent as »Rising Stars«. Arriving at the Elbphilharmonie en route, they are all set to perform in the Recital Hall over the course of one week – presenting a special opportunity to gain a hugely varied insight into what the future of music holds.

The six very different concert evenings include not only personal introduction talks with the artists, but also exciting world premieres commissioned by the ECHO for each »Rising Star«.

Sào Soulez Larivière

Wed, 22 January 2025 : Sào Soulez Larivière, Viola

The French-Dutch violist Sào Soulez Larivière is already well into his international career, gracing major concert stages around the world and teaching as a professor at the Salzburg Mozarteum. At the Elbphilharmonie, he showcases challenging solo works alongside an exhilarating fusion of viola and percussion.

The award-winning Portuguese clarinettist Carlos Ferreira has curated a diverse and evocative programme spanning from the Romantic era through to contemporary works. His performance features brand new music by the Chinese composer Lanqing Ding.

Quatuor Agate

Fri, 24 Jan 2025 : Quatuor Agate

Under the title »Outlaws«, the Quatuor Agate, founded in Berlin, presents a carefully refined programme centred around Dmitri Shostakovich‘s Eighth String Quartet and including special live projections. The musicians also transcend their traditional roles as instrumentalists by incorporating vocals in a commissioned composition by Anna Korsun.

The Luxembourg cellist Benjamin Kruithof already has a reputation for his exceptionally lyrical and captivating sound. As a »Rising Star«, he brings a multifaceted programme to the stage – ranging from Rachmaninov’s passionate and melodious sonata to a new work by the British composer Sally Beamish.

Lukas Sternath

Wed, 29 Jan 2025 : Lukas Sternath, Piano

The Viennese pianist has been garnering widespread attention since his triumph at the prestigious ARD Music Competition in 2022. At the Elbphilharmonie, he performs a demanding programme featuring classics by Brahms and Liszt, alongside contemporary works by Sofia Gubaidulina and a new composition by the renowned violinist Patricia Kopatchinskaja (PatKop).
