Heroic tenoral heights
The great operatic composers were often inspired to write their most daring coloratura and most spectacular top notes by the extraordinary abilities of certain singers. Jean-Philippe Rameau was no exception – he wrote many of his tenor parts specially for Pierre Jéliote, who dominated the Parisian opera scene for decades with his seemingly effortless top notes.
The Belgian countertenor Reinoud van Mechelen now dedicates an entire concert to the arias Rameau composed for »his« star tenor. Van Mechelen is joined by his own ensemble »A Nocte Temporis«, who help to unfold this panorama of Baroque vocal acrobatics with musical intensity and historical accuracy. Together, they trace the footsteps of the legendary French singer and get the Laeiszhalle Grand Hall cheering just as Pierre Jéliote got the Paris Operá roaring back in the 18th century.
