»Greatness, tenderness and grandeur«: those were the buzzwords and superlatives showered by critics on Georg Friedrich Handel’s great success. His English-language oratorio »Messiah« is still the composer’s most popular work – not least due to the magnificent choral parts. In the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall, a cast of first-class soloists will perform Handel’s version of the Christmas and salvation story, among them the British countertenor David Allsopp, a regular guest at the BBC Proms. For the instrumental part, chief conductor Klaas Stok has invited the innovative early music ensemble Holland Baroque.
