The audience prize at the ARD Music Competition is almost as sought-after as the jury award. In 2019, bassoon player Mathis Kaspar Stier managed to win it, as well as an additional second prize. In this concert the young musician brings his instrument, which is rarely heard in a solo role, to the »Teatime Classics« series.
Mathis Stier enrolled as a student at the Munich College of Music aged only 14; he later went on to study at the Conservatoire National in Paris, and was awarded a scholarship by the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra’s Karajan Academy. He is accompanied in the Brahms Foyer by the award-winning chamber-music pianist and song accompanist Rie Akamatsu, who teaches at the Cologne College of Music.
