Insider Tip for Sound Adventurers

»You Matter« is the name of the latest album by Swiss harpist Julie Campiche. It all depends on you. The reference to the responsibility of each individual for the whole may also be politically motivated, but all people who simply want to listen to her wonderfully idiosyncratic music may also feel meant by this. After all, it is only in their ears that the so imaginatively arranged material that Julie Campiche invents with her three excellent comrades-in-arms on tenor saxophone, drums and double bass falls on fertile ground.

Like her, the partners come from the Swiss jazz scene, which is always surprisingly great in terms of craftsmanship and imagination. Campiche’s harp is unquestionably at the centre. The way she questions the sound of the instrument from all sides, pushes it beyond its limits with the help of electronics and never disregards her feeling for intermediate tones, would be exciting enough in itself. But the virtuosity, subtlety and power of their quartet, which interacts closely and at the same time very freely with each other, unfolds in a different way in each piece and, like in a cubist painting, constantly adds surprising perspectives and spaces to each other, which, for all their strangeness, seem completely organic. The music of the Julie Campiche Quartet is so ingenious and outrageous in the best sense of the word: it also has an astonishing flow, by which one is only too happy to be carried away into undreamed-of realms. A great insider tip for everyone with a desire for real sound adventures!
