Haydn / Schumann / Hosokawa
Coming from one generation of musicians, the star flautist Emmanuel Pahud, piano luminary Eric Le Sage, and the master cellist Jean-Guihen Queyras who is widely known in Hamburg, share a long friendship. In addition to repertoire highlights by Schumann and Haydn, they will perform a new work by Toshio Hosokawa, commissioned by the Elbphilharmonie.
The musicians are also involved in the commission of the new work by the most influential contemporary Japanese composer. Toshio Hosokawa has been awarded numerous distinctions and has composed, among others, the opera »Stilles Meer« (Silent Sea), which premiered at the Hamburg State Opera last season.
The rest of the programme features seasoned and popular works for classical flute trio instrumentation by Haydn, Schumann and Martinů. The trio will also perform Carl Maria von Weber’s g minor trio, the premiere of which the composer subsequently commented with, »it went very well, and came across just as I wanted«.
