It’s almost incredible what Franz Schubert achieved in the 31 years he was alive: he has more than 600 songs to his name, plus – depending how you count – eight symphonies, several operas and masses, and 15 (surviving) string quartets that are among the best the genre has to offer. France’s Quatuor Modigliani, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary in 2023, now presents nine of those string quartets at the Music Festival. In January 2022, the ensemble released their recording of all Schubert quartets, which was praised for its »exceptional intensity« (Fono Forum).
