The Tallis Scholars
»The Song of Songs« – Hamburg International Music Festival
Song of Songs
Since their founding exactly 50 years ago, the Tallis Scholars have been one of the world’s leading vocal ensembles for Renaissance and sacred a-cappella music. During their anniversary tour with their founder Peter Phillips conducting, they will be visiting the Elbphilharmonie for the first time as part of the Hamburg International Music Festival – and, in keeping with the festival theme, will be presenting compositions related to King Solomon’s »Song of Songs« from the Bible.
The programme traces a line from Renaissance masters such as Orlando di Lasso to contemporary composers. Highlights include a work by the British composer Judith Weir, who is the first woman to hold the honorary position of »Master of the King’s Music« (or until recently: Queen’s Music) – and who is thereby a kind of court composer for the King of England.
