Symphoniker Hamburg / Sylvain Cambreling
»R(h)einklang«
The mythical twins Castor and Pollux were inseparable and each would do anything for the other. As stars they attained immortality. French composer Jean-Philippe Rameau wrote an opera based on their story in 1737, featuring music full of spirit. In contrast, Maurice Maeterlinck’s symbolist romantic drama »Pelléas and Mélisande« is set in a medieval world of dreams and imagination; Gabriel Fauré wrote magical incidental music for the play. This second VielHarmonie concert with the Symphoniker Hamburg under Sylvain Cambreling comes to an end with a performance of Schumann’s enchanting Symphony No. 3, which the composer wrote after moving to the Rhineland – another famous setting for myth, history and poetry.
