Messiaen / Mozart – 2G+ AND PHYSICAL DISTANCE
Love and power
Influenced by his experience of imprisonment in 1940, Olivier Messiaen wrote a composition for the unusual and impressive instrumentation of piano, ondes Martenot, 36-voice women’s choir, percussion and strings during the war years of 1943 and 1944. The composer therefore used the exotic electronic instrument ondes Martenot in an almost full-length work even before the monumental Turangalîla-Symphonie (1946–48).
