Simon Höfele
Rising Stars
Since he won the U21 special prize at the 2011 ARD International Music Competition, Simon Höfele has been one of the most exciting trumpeters of the young generation. In addition to the familiar trumpet works of the Baroque and Viennese Classicism, the 25-year-old is particularly fond of playing contemporary music. For example, he was one of the soloists in the world premiere of Matthias Pintscher’s Double Concerto for Two Trumpets alongside Reinhold Friedrich, who was already his teacher as a 14-year-old student in Karlsruhe. And in Hamburg, too, he kicks off the »Rising Stars« series with trumpet music of the 20th and 21st centuries.
Frank Dupree, who was chosen as the sole prizewinner of the 2014 German Music Competition, accompanies Simon Höfele in this concert. The two artists perform a programme that ranges from Ravel’s impressionistic »Miroirs« through Hindemith’s energetic trumpet sonata to jazzy pieces by the Russian composer Nikolai Kapustin. We also hear a work Höfele commissioned from the Czech composer Miroslav Srnka (*1975).
