To paradise with Schumann

Sir Simon Rattle is regrettably unable to conduct this concert due to a small surgery. Marc Minkowski has kindly agreed to step in. The programme remains unchanged and tickets retain their validity. We will be in touch directly with tickets buyers and subscribers to notify them.

Staatskapelle Berlin – which celebrated its 450th birthday in the coronavirus year of 2020 – is one of the world’s most prestigious and tradition-rich orchestras. Having already captivated the Elbphilharmonie audience in 2017 and 2018 with their »inspired« sound (Hamburger Abendblatt), the orchestra now performs an absolute rarity in Robert Schumann’s oratorio »Paradise and the Peri«. With rich and colourful music, the oratorio tells the story of the peri, a winged creature from Persian mythology that tries to ascend from earth to paradise.
