Terry Riley’s »In C« is something of a holy grail in minimal music. The American composer wrote this energetic score full of constantly repeating phrases in 1964. Riley’s work would inspire Philip Glass, Brian Eno and Kraftwerk. Now, the Swiss post-industrial band The Young Gods performs »In C« with the acclaimed dance company Sasha Waltz & Guests!
Sasha Waltz choreographed »In C« to live music for the first time in 2021, with the US ensemble Bang on a Can performing. With The Young Gods, the intensity of the sound is taken up a notch with the addition of drums and guitar.
»The score of ›In C‹ consists of 53 musical figures and reads like stage directions for musicians«, says Waltz. From it, a multi-faceted choreography of 53 moving figures has been created, through which »In C« breaks new audio-visual ground.
