Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam / Peter Eötvös
Eötvös / Schönberg / Stravinsky / Bartók
Iveta Apkalna, titular organist at the Elbphilharmonie and probably one of the most experimental organists of our time, says she would like to have more concertos for organ and orchestra. Composer in Residence Peter Eötvös has complied with her wish: with »Multiversum«, a piece specially commissioned by and for the Elbphilharmonie, he presents a large-scale premiere.
»I translate everything I see or experience into music. I am particularly fascinated by the theory of parallel worlds« – thus Eötvös. In his new work he explores the possibilities of the organ and the Hammond organ. With this scoring alone – perfectly implemented by organists Iveta Apkalna and László Fassang – he opens up parallel worlds.
Under Eötvös’s own baton, his »Multiversum« enters into dialogue this evening with three modern classics – all works without exception that give the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra the opportunity to display its virtuosity and tonal diversity to impressive effect.
