Quatuor Van Kuijk
Haydn / Debussy / Mendelssohn Bartholdy / Canat de Chizy
The Quatuor Van Kuijk has a Dutch name but comes from France. The four young string players studied with musicians from the Alban Berg, Artemis and Hagen Quartets, and are regarded as one of the most exciting chamber music ensembles of their generation.
The Quatuor Van Kuijk has received a number of awards over the last few years, among them the First Prize, the Beethoven Prize and the Haydn Prize at the Wigmore Hall International Chamber Music Competition. In their concert at the Elbphilharmonie the ensemble performs string quartets from four different musical eras.
Viennese classicism is represented by Joseph Haydn’s »Joke« Quartet; there is an early Romantic piece by Mendelssohn; and lovers of musical impressionism are catered to with Debussy’s sensuous String Quartet. Those who prefer contemporary music will enjoy the piece by French composer Édith Canat de Chizy.
