After his Carnegie Hall debut, one reviewer referred to a »dazzling mix of poetry and passion«, but Philipp Richardsen sees himself in a different light: »It’s not the interpreter who must dazzle, but the composer. Virtuosity is good, but fidelity to the score is better«. This evening, Richardsen is giving a classical piano recital in the Elbphilharmonie Recital Hall. The first half of the programme is devoted to Schubert’s penultimate piano sonata, which is often called a magnum opus of Viennese classicism. It forges a link to the passion of the Romantic period and leads into the world of Ferruccio Busoni’s virtuosic Bach transcriptions.
