Nikolai Tokarev / Sergei Nakariakov
with the St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic
Trumpeter Sergei Nakariakov and pianist Nikolai Tokarev have a lot in common: they both come from Russia, and both had their breakthrough as musicians at an early age. But first and foremost, they are celebrated today for their virtuosity. Accompanied by the St. Petersburg Chamber Philharmonic, they perform a programme that is almost tailor-made for the Elbphilharmonie: the sensitive acoustics of the Grand Hall bring out rarely-heard nuances in 20th century music in particular. In Shostakovich’s Concerto for Piano, Trumpet and String Orchestra, the two soloists demonstrate their virtuosity in close musical cooperation.
