Murcof
Lux aeterna / ePhil / Replacement Concert for Nic Endo
Fernando Corona was born in Tijuana, Mexico, in 1970. He came into contact with classical music through his father, while his mother introduced him to traditional Mexican folk music. He developed an interest in electronic music at an early age, especially in the classical-electronic crossover music of artists like Jean-Michel Jarre and Isao Tomita. His own experiments with digital effects and minimalistic sound samples culminated in a musical career of his own under the name »Murcof«.
As a young musician, Murcof studied modern composition techniques as the keyboarder of a rock band, took cello lessons and was fascinated by contemporary composers such as Iannis Xenakis and György Ligeti. Nowadays he derives inspiration from techno, glitch, dub or drone music as well as from free, improvised jazz and from classical music. In the latter category, Henry Purcell and Arvo Pärt play an influential role in his work.
Murcof appears in place of the German-American soundscape artist Nic Endo, who was regrettably forced to cancel her concert.
