Martin Grubinger
featuring Ferhan and Ferzan Önder
He is the Bastian Schweinsteiger of classical music: Martin Grubinger. They share not only the same haircut, the same sense of humour and the same place of origin on the Bavarian-Austrian border, but also hard training. Martin Grubinger lifts weights and pedals hundreds of kilometres on his road bike. Furthermore, the »multi-percussionist« has an extreme perspiration-inducing style of playing that reaches a high level of artistry unprecedented for a percussionist.
The world-class percussionist fills concert halls from New York to Tokyo and has performed before 200 million viewers during the Eurovision Song Contest. With his »unsurpassable mixture of good spirits and high voltage« (Hamburger Abendblatt), he has advanced to become an absolute favourite of the public.
During his residence weekend at the Elbphilharmonie, Martin Grubinger presents three thrilling programmes: two with his Percussive Planet Ensemble and the other with family members – wife Ferzan Önder and her twin sister Ferhan on piano, and Grubinger’s percussionist father.
