The piano whisperer
Pianist Marc Copland is often described as the »piano whisperer«. A very apt description of his elegant and restrained style that is often reminiscent of Bill Evans or Claude Debussy. The 74-year-old musician is now coming to the Laeiszhalle with his quartet to present the music from the new album »Someday«.
Copland is a resolute man who does not shy away from difficult decisions. When he was dissatisfied with his career as a saxophonist in his home city of Philadelphia and in New York in the 1960s, he stepped back from the music scene for a few years to professionalise his piano playing. He became a sought-after sidekick who has played with Gary Peacock, Billy Hart and John Scofield, and countless more. From the late 1980s onwards, he also recorded albums of his own and toured Europe extensively. In his playing, romanticisms and impressionistic soundscapes meet a buoyant groove.
