The enfant terrible of classical music returns to Hamburg

As a result of unreconcilable scheduling difficulties Barbara Hannigan will be unable to perform in this concert. We are grateful that puertorican-american soprano Sophia Burgos who has previously performed Vivier’s »Lonely Child« with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and Teodor Currentzis has agreed to appear at such short notice.

He is regarded as the enfant terrible of classical music and radiates charisma like no other: Teodor Currentzis. Following his spectacular debut at the Laeiszhalle at the beginning of 2016, he returns to Hamburg. Together with the Mahler Chamber Orchestra and his opera chorus from Perm, which has earned an international reputation since he began his tenure there, Currentzis brings Luciano Berio’s fascinating work »Coro« on stage. This is preceded by »Lux aeterna«, an a capella work by György Ligeti that plays with fluctuating sound worlds. »Call«, another work by Berio, features in the first half of the concert.
