Lukas Geniušas / Gidon Kremer / Kremerata Baltica
Please note the changes of artist and programme!
A few days ago, Daniil Trifonov injured his foot in a bicycle accident in New York. His medical doctor has advised him to avoid operating the piano pedals and has thus been forced to cancel his performances on the upcoming tour with the Kremerata Baltica, including the concert at the Elbphilharmonie.
A worthy substitute has been found in the form of the young Russian-Lithuanian pianist Lukas Geniušas, who already drew attention to himself in 2010 after winning the International Chopin Piano Competition. This change of artist at such short notice has resulted in programme alterations: Frédéric Chopin’s Piano Concerto No. 2 in F minor and Arvo Pärt’s »Fratres« with Gidon Kremer as soloist replace Daniil Trifonov’s Quintetto Concertante and Lepo Sumera’s »Symphōne«.
Born in Moscow in 1990, Lukas Geniušas started piano studies at the age of five; the mentorship of his grandmother, Vera Gornostaeva, the prominent teacher and professor at the Moscow Conservatory, played a major role in Geniušas’s early musical development. Lukas Geniušas’s musical interests are extensive and he explores a wide range of repertoire, from the Baroque to works by contemporary composers. He is an avid chamber musician and enjoys working on new works by modern composers, as well as resurrecting rarely performed repertoire.
