Les Ambassadeurs / Alexis Kossenko
NDR Das Alte Werk
Jean-Philippe Rameau was »wilful, brilliant, multi-layered, complicated«, raved the author and philosopher Denis Diderot: before Rameau, »no one recognised the fine nuances that separate tender from sensual, sensual from passionate, passionate from lustful«. The tragedy moved heaven and earth, bringing down the gods and calling out to the demons, not even fearing the gates of Hades.
For the performance of Rameau‘s works, France sends its most convincing diplomatic representatives to Hamburg, the orchestra Les Ambassadeurs. With the flautist Alexis Kossenko, born in Nice, it is a celebration of the strength of love and the power of music: grandiose French Baroque opera.
