International Mendelssohn Festival
Mozart / Hensel / Dvořák
Fanny’s Sunday Music
With the exception of a few songs, Fanny Mendelssohn’s compositions were not printed in her own lifetime, and only reappeared in edited parts and scores from the 1980s onwards. The International Mendelssohn Festival places her only string quartet alongside chamber music with wind instruments, which highlights the cantabile quality of her music. Thus the evening begins with Mozart’s only Oboe Quartet. The second part of the evening opens with Slav melodies, and ends with Tchaikovsky’s »The Seasons«, arranged with lovely timbres for saxophone and string quartet.
