International Mendelssohn Festival
Mendelssohn Bartholdy / Chopin / Bellini
There is something in the air
On his tours of Europe, Franz Liszt played to thunderous applause wherever he appeared. He presented the great »hits« of his time to brilliant effect, so that his virtuoso »Reminiscences de Norma de Bellini« are pretty much the centrepiece of this concert evening. Frédéric Chopin demonstrated his virtuosity with the »Polonaise brillante for Cello and Piano«, causing quite a stir in Parisian salons. In the first part of the International Mendelssohn Festival’s fifth concert, the focus is on individual storms of emotion, which are joined up after the interval in the Piano Quintet in F major, op. 34, by Johannes Brahms.
