Mystische Musiktraditionen aus Indonesien – Klassik der Welt
Rattling meditation
For Franki Raden, music is an expression of essential human values such as communication, spirituality and international understanding. In order to move this musical mission further into the spotlight, the composer founded the Indonesian National Orchestra (INO) in 2010.
The INO’s 45 musicians come from all over Indonesia and represent the cultural diversity of the multi-ethnic state with its population of 275 million. The ensemble combines woodwind instruments, zither and percussion with traditional gamelan orchestra instruments from the major islands of Java and Bali. Western minimalists such as Steve Reich and post-rock bands like Godspeed You! Black Emperor have been influenced by the rattling yet hypnotic sound of metallophones, gongs and drums. The INO’s music exudes a meditative peace and power that is further amplified by the choir’s mantra singing.
