Hamburg Philharmonic State Orchestra
Please note the change of performers and programme!
This truly classical concert was originally going to be conducted by Sir Neville Marriner. Sadly, the great British conductor, founder and longstanding director of the legendary Academy of St. Martin in the Fields died, aged 92, on 2 October 2016. A great loss for the worldwide music scene – and for Hamburg. The Swiss conductor Lorenzo Viotti replaces Sir Neville Marriner on the podium. Tickets for both concert dates retain their validity.
A change of performers has also resulted in a change of programme: Lorenzo Viotti conducts Richard Strauss’ tone poem »Don Juan« and Erich Wolfgang Korngold’s Sinfonietta in the place of works by Mendelssohn and Brahms. Substituting Schumann’s Concerto for Cello is Antonín Dvorák’s Cello Concerto – one of the cello repertoire’s most famous compositions – presented by soloist Julian Steckel.
