Mendelssohn: Elijah
Grand Oratorio
»Never has a piece been so enthusiastically received as his ›Elias«, Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy wrote to his brother Paul in 1846 after the premiere of the oratorio in Birmingham. In his famous work, Mendelssohn sets to music the story of the prophet Elijah, who fights for his convictions without compromise. With monumental choirs and a large orchestra, the composer dramatically stages the story.
