Érard-Festival Hamburg 2020
»Der Klang von Paris«
The Sound of Paris
Heine and Chopin, Liszt and Clara Schumann, even Stravinsky, Poulenc and Proust: they all sought and found a sympathetic audience in the Parisian salons, for whom they performed many of their works for the first time. What other instrument could be at home in this legendary setting if not an Érard piano?
It was good form to place an Érard at the disposal of the musicians invited to the salon, so that they could present their art to delight a select group of listeners and also provide a new topic for intellectual discussion. The salon was open to many types of music, as long as it was of fine quality.
Arrangements of orchestral works (often made by the composer himself) were performed, as well as potpourris; there were displays of demonic virtuosity as well as profound chamber music: the salon was home to many varieties of music. We hope the audience at our Érard evening will enjoy the exciting combinations of harp and piano, flute and piano, clarinet and piano as well as solo piano pieces from one of the great eras of music.
