Ensemble Modern / Enno Poppe
Georges Aperghis / Enno Poppe – Elbphilharmonie Visions
Many ensembles in one
»Hopse« and »Körper« (Skipping and Bodies) – the titles of the two works on the programme of the Ensemble Modern’s concert could hardly be more plastic. And it’s true that the German title of Georges Aperghis’s new work, which was recently premiered at the Witten New Chamber-Music Festival, is redolent of skipping and hopping around, with the music itself permeated by a great appetite for movement. In the words of the composer, who was awarded the Ernst von Siemens Music Prize in 2021: »Little feet hop, and the world alters in keeping with the steps they take.«
Visions as a package: If you buy three or more concerts of the »Elbphilharmonie Visions« festival at the same time, you will receive a 30% discount on the ticket price. To do so, select »Visions Trio Bonus 30%« in the shopping basket.
Like Aperghis, Enno Poppe has been cooperating closely with the Ensemble Modern for years now. And like »Hopse«, Poppe’s »Körper« can be seen as a homage to the ensemble and its great versatility. The Poppe piece is based on a dualism of strict metre and time left to the performers to decide. To quote the Neue Musikzeitung: »It transforms the formation into one new ensemble after another, with different origins, styles and playing culture: free jazz, big band, Balkan banda, Arab tacht and a wildly improvising chaos group.« The Ensemble Modern is all of these things!
