As a composer and musical improviser, Sylvie Courvoisier has long since made a name for herself as one of the leading lights of New York’s downtown scene. She has worked together with Mary Halvorson and the great John Zorn, she plays in a wide variety of formations from duo to quintet, and she writes music for radio, the ballet and the theatre. When the native Swiss pianist, born in 1968, set sail for the Big Apple 25 years ago, she was only planning to stay for three months, but then she put down permanent roots there. Sylvie Courvoisier appears at the Elbphilharmonie with her trio.
