CANCELLED: Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra & Choir / Daniel Harding

The philosopher Friedrich Nietzsche emphatically proclaimed that »God is dead!« and substituted him with the prophet Zarathustra, who wanted to teach humanity individual responsibility. That pleased the religiously sceptical Richard Strauss, who translated the doctrine into a colourful symphonic poem that is most famous, perhaps, from the soundtrack to the film »2001: A Space Odyssey«. The other works in this concert also exhibit elements of pre-Christian beliefs: Dvorák’s »The Golden Spinning Wheel« sets an old Czech fairy tale to music, and Bartók’s epic tone poem »Cantata profana« tells the story of boys who are transformed into stags and who cannot return home. Daniel Harding and his Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra & Choir immerse themselves fully in the world of Eastern European myths and fairy tales.
