London, Munich, Tokyo. The home cities of the members of Spirit Fest aren’t exactly within a bus ride of each other. Thanks to digital technology, however, the five get together regularly, and in 2020 this »international dream-pop supergroup« (taz) will be releasing their third album. Spirit Fest – named after a ghost who sings at night for sleeping people – are the English sound experimenter Mat Fowler (Jam Money), Cico Beck and Markus Acher from The Notwist, and the Japanese avantgarde-folk duo Tenniscoats. They sing their intimate sound meditations, which also feature the harmonium, zither and banjo, in English and Japanese. Spirit Fest are always fluttering between playful chamber pop, soft electronica and cryptic, folky children’s music – perfect for a blissfully somnambulistic evening at the Elbphilharmonie.
At the »Elbjazz« festival the Hamburg harbour is the backdrop for a unique music event: since 2010 thousands of guests have been thrilled by one of the largest European jazz festivals where the unmistakable maritime flair of the Hanseatic city of Hamburg meets spectacular venues and musical diversity. The concerts and the colourful supporting programme of the festival take place at changing locations north and south of the Elbe river – and for the fourth time in a row at the Elbphilharmonie in 2020.
