After his first appearance in the Elbphilharmonie Grand Hall for the finale of Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony, Welsh singer Bryn Terfel declared in no uncertain terms: »I loved it!« And if anyone can fill this concert hall right to the roof with an overpowering sound, then it is this giant of a man. In June 2018 the gifted bass-baritone gave the Elbphilharmonie another vocal highlight in the shape of his unforgettable appearance as Méphistophélès in a concert version of Berlioz’s »La damnation de Faust«. Here he was able to show his full range of vocal and dramatic talent: fiendish charm, a crystal-clear speaking voice and a stage presence that left no doubt as to how the pact with the Devil would work out. In his private life, the father of four is a peaceable and down-to-earth family man whose favourite pastime is helping out on his own father’s farm in North Wales. For this recital, Terfel will be appearing in the Laeiszhalle Grand Hall, accompanied by Natalia Katyukova on the piano.
