»Everything is consumed by fire and light« – thus Sofia Gubaidulina’s description of the finale of her apocalyptic work »Der Reiter auf dem weißen Pferd« (The Rider on the White Horse). For the opening concert of the Hamburg International Music Festival, whose motto this year is »Belief«, chief conductor Alan Gilbert performs not one but three highly impressive works that are quite a challenge for the top-class soloists.
