The cycle of Beethoven symphonies with Jordi Savall, whose start was already eagerly anticipated in the 2019/20 season and then rescheduled for 2020/21 owing to Corona, has now been cancelled completely. The reason is that several musicians in Jordi Savall’s orchestra Le Concert des Nations have tested positive for Covid-19, so that next weekend’s concerts in the Laeiszhalle cannot take place. Jordi Savall is inconsolable, and plans to reschedule the Beethoven cycle in the coming seasons, when he will perform it in Hamburg as well.

The big musical event of the year 2020 is the 250th anniversary of Beethoven’s birth. To mark the occasion, the chamber orchestra Le Concert de Nations under the baton of its conductor Jordi Savall has put Beethoven’s music on its programme, devoting four concerts to performances of a selection of Beethoven’s symphonies. The first concert features Symphonies Nos. 1 and 2, with which the orchestra and its period instruments makes a guest appearance at the Laeiszhalle.
