»Leoš Janáček’s music is exceptionally concise and concentrated,« one critic wrote in 2017 about Janáček’s opera » Kát’a Kabanová«, adding that it sounded as if it were bringing up the most painful parts of human existence. »The Moravian composer manages to do so by basing his score on language: his musical motifs are onomatopoeic in nature, consisting of shouts and cries of joy or fear.« At the Elbphilharmonie the rarely-heard work is performed by Jakub Hrůša and the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, who have a reputation as true Janáček experts.
