It’s not the first time that Giovanni Antonini as the charismatic and historically-informed head of Il Giardino Armonico has joined forces with the Basel Chamber Orchestra to stage great opera at the Elbphilharmonie. And in this case »great« doesn’t mean bombastic, but musically worked out down to the smallest detail. It refers to the incredible transparency that every score takes on in Antonini’s hands. And in 2021 he has a superb vocal ensemble at his disposal for Mozart’s »Così fan tutte«. Among the singers is Julia Kleiter as Fiordiligi, who already made a name for herself at the 2016 Salzburg Festival - »with a crystal-clear soprano, utterly clean intonation and tenderness of expression«. Doesn’t everyone do it this way? Actually: no!
