»You listen to a conversation between four civilised people , believe you can derive something from their discourse and get to know the special characteristics of their instruments.« – thus Goethe’s famous description of the string quartet genre. Does the individual musician really feel as if he was part of a conversation, and how can one use music to conduct a conversation? How well does one need to get on with the other people involved? The four musicians of the Novus String Quartet report on the special challenges that chamber music’s supreme discipline poses, illustrated by extracts from works by Felix Mendelssohn and Bedřich Smetana.
Elbphilharmonie+ is a programme that opens up different ways of looking at the music performed at the Elbphilharmonie – either to supplement a concert, or as an experience in its own right. Interdisciplinary encounters and exhibitions form part of the Elbphilharmonie+ programme, as do concert talks and films shown in museums, libraries, cinemas and community centres.
