CANCELLED: Düsseldorfer Symphoniker / Ferrández / Fischer

For the first half of this concert, conductor Adam Fischer could really let his Düsseldorfer Symphony Orchestra go on stage alone: Haydn’s Cello Concerto No. 1 in C major is still so firmly rooted in the Baroque world that one can imagine the virtuoso soloist surrounded by a small orchestra, with no further intervention required from the rostrum. But Adam Fischer is nothing if not a Haydn expert, so that his presence will certainly be beneficial. Moreover, there are two other pieces on tonight’s programme: firstly, the overture to the opera »La fedeltà premiata«, first performed in 1782, with which Haydn put a brilliant musical intrigue on stage; it is a pity that this delightful work is only heard live nowadays. And after the interval comes Antonín Dvořák’s marvellous last symphony, in which the Czech composer depicted in music the impressions from his time in America.
