Alongside Herbie Hancock and Keith Jarrett, Chick Corea (b. 1941) is without a doubt one of today’s most important jazz pianists. Always a master of a wide variety of styles, the son of Italian-Spanish parents made a decisive contribution to the fusion jazz of the 1970s. On Miles Davis’s style-defining album »Bitches Brew«, Corea drove ahead the electrification of jazz and its synthesis with rock-music structures; he was open to free-jazz experiments and switched effortlessly from Latin jazz to classical music.
