Saxophonist and composer Anthony Braxton has been evolving his musical style, influenced by both John Coltrane and John Cage, for over 40 years now. Braxton’s music combines the intuitive aspects of free jazz with the harmonic methods of contemporary classical music to forge sounds of remarkable complexity and passion. Thus the music philosopher and former professional chess player has risen to become one of the leading figures in late 20th century music.
