When two internationally famous chamber ensembles join forces to play a special French masterpiece from the late romantic era, one can only regret that there are not more works scored for piano, violin and string quartet. At least we can be grateful to Ernest Chausson to writing such a gorgeous piece of music! And with the English Doric String Quartet and the equally acclaimed duo consisting of violinist Alina Ibragimova and pianist Cédric Tiberghien, two exceptional formations immerse themselves together in Chausson’s marvellous score. It goes without saying that the works by Guillaume Lekeu and Claude Debussy that also feature on the programme are likewise full of charm and wit.
