Budapest Festival Orchestra / Alexandre Kantorow / Iván Fischer
Liszt: Piano Concerto / Mahler: Symphony No. 1 – Hamburg International Music Festival
A virtuoso like Franz Liszt
Conductor Iván Fischer and the Budapest Festival Orchestra are an outstanding team with decades of experience: Fischer founded the orchestra in his native city almost 40 years ago, and together they have gained international renown. For their concert as part of the Hamburg International Music Festival, the popular performers return to the Elbphilharmonie and team up with the celebrated young pianist Alexandre Kantorow. Above all since 2019, when he won the gold medal in the piano category at the prestigious International Tchaikovsky Competition at the age of 22 – the first French winner in the history of the competition – Kantorow has been one of the most sought-after artists of his generation. At the Elbphilharmonie he performs the solo part of Franz Liszt’s Piano Concerto No. 2 with its delightful contrasts.
