»I have come into the world for no other purpose than to compose«, is one of the most well-known sayings attributed to Franz Schubert. And we should be eternally grateful that he was so true to this claim. What would the world of chamber music be without its grandest work, Schubert´s string quintet with the extra cello? A whole series of concerts within the first Hamburg Internationale Musicfestival is devoted to the founder of the musical romantic era. This »Schubertiade« - a cooperation between FontenayClassics Kammerkonzerte and the Elbphilharmonie Konzerte – begins with a concert by none other than the Artemis Quartett – itself an institution in the string quartet scene. Despite several changes in its line-up since its founding in 1989, this string quartet has impressively held its leading international position. French star cellist, Gautier Capuçon, joins them for Schubert´s quintet. Also on the programme: the string quartet »Death and the Maiden«, which is based on Schubert´s song of the same name.
