The craft behind the music

The concert programme of the Elbphilharmonie and the Laeiszhalle cannot go ahead as planned due to the impact of the coronavirus pandemic. This event has had to be cancelled – it will not be rescheduled on an alternative date. Ticket buyers and people participating in the order process will be informed by e-mail. A workshop that stands alone as an accompanying programme on the subject of »string instruments«! Related thematically to the concert programme, the string instruments are put under the microscope and participants discover first-hand how they are created with outstanding craftsmanship. Of course, there will also be a chance to actually play the violin, viola, cello and double bass. The crowning finale is a guest performance by the Hamburg-based Canea Quartet – with an opportunity after the short concert for a discussion about musical favourites, inspiration and any other burning questions participants may have.

On 1 April, an exceptional string quartet can be heard at the Laeiszhalle: the Doric String Quartet performs works by Guillaume Lekeu, Claude Debussy und Ernest Chausson with guests Alina Ibragimova and Cédric Tiberhgien. Go to the concert

The Elbphilharmonie’s supporting programme offers a variety of different angles on the music performed – either to complement the concert itself, or as an experience in its own right. As a rule, the Elbphilharmonie+ events are interdisciplinary in nature: exhibitions, talks to accompany a particular concert or events featuring flamenco dancing or scat singing. They take place in the Elbphilharmonie itself in some cases, as well as in museums, libraries and local culture centres.
