Description

Hope can awaken unimagined powers and move mountains, but one has to believe in it. In a commentary on his cello concerto »Canto di speranza«, the composer Bernd Alois Zimmermann wrote: »Hope can only provide light to those who place their trust in it.« And the Gürzenich Orchestra Cologne, its chief conductor François-Xavier Roth and the star director Calixto Bieito now set a very practical example of that. The originally planned performance of Bernd Alois Zimmermann’s opera »Die Soldaten«, with its enormous cast, wasn’t really compatible with the current coronavirus situation – but they didn’t bury their heads in the sand. With lightning speed, they put together an alternative programme that really packs a punch. Tickets retain their validity, but can also be exchanged.
