Alles vom Feinsten in diesem Konzert: Die Wiener Philharmoniker, der Dirigent Mariss Jansons und der Bariton Thomas Hampson spielen allesamt in der Topliga der klassischen Musik. Auf ihr Programm haben sie zwei hochromantische Werke gesetzt, die von enttäuschten Liebesbeziehungen der Komponisten inspiriert wurden. So entstanden die »Lieder eines fahrenden Gesellen« 1884/85, als der Kasseler Kapellmeister Gustav Mahler aus unerwiderter Liebe vier zartfühlend-bodenständige Gedichte vertonte, die er für die umschwärmte Sopranistin Johanna Richter verfasst hatte. Noch weit dramatischer verarbeitete Hector Berlioz 1830 sein mehrjähriges erfolgloses Werben um die Schauspielerin Harriet Smithson. Ihr Bild verfolgt den Komponisten als »idée fixe« durch alle Sätze seiner berühmten »Symphonie fantastique«. Ob Berlioz seine musikalischen Tagträume und Halluzinationen von Ball, Landpartie, Richtstätte und Hexensabbath nun wirklich im Opiumrausch geschaffen hat, mag offen bleiben, aber der Effekt des Werks war von jeher berauschend: Beim Publikum zählt die Symphonie bis heute zu den unverwüstlichen Dauerbrennern, und Frau S. ließ sich davon letztlich doch zur Ehe mit Herrn B. verführen.

Since 1908, the Laeiszhalle has been a meeting place for Hamburg's musical life. The neo-baroque Laeiszhalle Grand Hall accommodates over 2,000 guests. (Please note: The Laeiszhalle is a separate concert hall located three kilometres away from the Elbphilharmonie.)

Facilities for ladies are located behind the cloakrooms on all floors. Facilities for gentlemen can be found on the landing between the floors, also located behind the cloakrooms.
A fully accessible toilet for persons with mobility disabilities is located behind the cloakroom on the ground floor (Parkett links).

Please note: There are several construction sites in the immediate vicinity of the Laeiszhalle which may make it difficult to get to the concert. Please therefore plan enough time for your journey to the concert.
The Laeiszhalle is a separate concert hall located three kilometres away from the Elbphilharmonie.
We suggest visitors arrive at the Laeiszhalle main entrance not later than 30 minutes before the start of the concert or event. Late seating is not guaranteed and latecomers may not be admitted to the concert hall.
The entrance of the Recital Hall is located on Gorch-Fock-Wall.
