Vanessa Porter, Schlagwerk
Rising Stars
Rhythm is it!
Whether classical drum set or gong, vocal experiments or vibraphone: the percussionist Vanessa Porter creates hypnotic soundscapes somewhere between delicate beauty and eruptive violence in her music. This season she performs at the Elbphilharmonie as part of the »ECHO Rising Stars« series – as a soloist as well as together with her sister and duet partner Jessica.
With works from the 20th and 21st centuries, Vanessa Porter demonstrates both her own immense versatility and the incredible breadth of the percussion repertoire of recent decades. Spanning the Japanese-inspired sounds of Yoshihisa Taira, the multi-faceted minimalism of Steve Reich and the tonal experimentation of Vinko Globokar, the percussionist has put together a programme that remains captivating from beginning to end. Of course, Emil Kuyumcuyan’s »Shapes« and »The Messenger« by the Greek composer Georges Aperghis are also on the programme. Both works were written especially for Vanessa Porter and the festival.
