Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 5 is arguably the most festive, heroic and chivalric piano concerto of its time. The first and last movements make a powerful impression, and they also include a waltzy element. And in-between, a contemplative peace that soars to great human gestures.

In mid-April 2022, Nicholas Angelich – one of the world’s most outstanding musicians – died at the age of 51. The Symphoniker Hamburg and chief conductor Sylvain Cambreling mourn the loss of this incomparable and unforgettable friend. The programme remains unchanged: Ronald Brautigam will take on the piano part in the Beethoven piano concerto.
